Program Overview

De Anza College is located in Cupertino, California, the heart of Silicon Valley. Approximately 400 students per week attend classes to further their careers or to explore the technology. The program is NATEF certified with seven full-time ASE certified faculty. Programs in Automotive Technology are listed below. For additional information regarding specific programs, see the faculty listing.

 

Introductory Program and Support Courses

These courses are numbered in the 50's and are offered day and evening. Courses provide exploratory experience and prepare students for entry into the full-time program. Some courses are required for Certificate and Degree Requirements. No prior instruction or work experience is required.

In-service Programs for Technicians and Apprentices

These courses are numbered in the 60's and are offered evenings only in six and twelve-week clinic formats. They meet apprenticeship requirements and lead to Crtificates of Proficiency and Associate Degrees in the following areas of specialization:

Upon application for graduation, six-quarter units of credit will be granted for ASE area certification.

Entry Level Programs for Full-time Students

These programs are offered days only and are one year in duration. Courses are numbered in the 90's and add up to approximately 1,000 hours of lecture-laboratory instruction per program. Programs meet requirements for Certificates of Proficiency and an Associate Degree major in each of the following areas of specialization:

Prior automotive course work or experience is required. Students must apply for a "Course Sequence Contract" in time to begin Fall quarter classes.

CAP Program

A Daimler-Chrysler sponsored program for apprentices in Chrysler dealerships. Students take the same courses as in-service apprentices and technicians (those numbered in the 60's). Graduates earn journeyman status and an Associate Degree.

Inspection and Maintenance Courses

The following courses meet specific Bureau of Auto Repair (BAR) requirements for California Inspection and Maintenance (smog) technicians. Technicians with ASE certification in areas A6 and A8 that pass these courses meet requirements to take the State examination.

North County Regional Occupational Program (ROP)

An occupational education program offered at the college for regional high school students. Semester long courses (180 hours each) prepares students for entry level employment or entry into the full-time college program.
